Victim Advocate – Order of Protection Court

Job Description

Rose Brooks Center, a non-profit domestic violence agency, is currently seeking a full-time, Victim Advocate – Order of Protection Court whose primary role will be to provide survivors of domestic violence with court advocacy services, support in planning for safety and assistance accessing community resources. This position is responsible for providing court advocacy services for victims filing for order of protection and appearing for Order of Protection hearings that are survivor-centered, accessible, trauma-informed and culturally competent. Direct service activities include safety planning, education on how to navigate the court system and victim rights, assistance accessing community resources and filing victims’ compensation, and follow up phone contacts. This position provides data control for grant compliance and reporting requirements specific to the role.

The individual in this role will support the mission and values of the agency, collaborate across program teams within the agency and systems and persons outside the agency. 1. Perform all job responsibilities while demonstrating proficiency in all RBC competencies and a commitment to the overall mission of Rose Brooks Center.
2. Engage all survivor clients in positive interactions to demonstrate care and compassion and develop genuine relationships
3. Perform functions of job according to agency policies and procedures.
4. Participate in a minimum of 3 equity and inclusion related activities.
5. Participate in all required trainings and optional trainings as determined.
6. Attend scheduled staff and team meetings
QUALIFICIATIONS:
Required Education, Experience and Skills
• Minimum of one year of advocacy experience, preferably with a domestic violence agency.
• Experience working in a court setting and/or with law enforcement preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or a related field or commensurate; courses or classwork related to human services, social work, etc. is preferred and not required.
• Thorough knowledge of best practices and domestic violence dynamics and criminal justice system.
• Knowledge of municipal, state and federal laws to help protect survivors of domestic violence and hold domestic violence offenders accountable.
• Demonstrate respect for equity and inclusion.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, database systems and other software.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
• Bilingual Spanish-English preferred

Hours: Full-time, exempt position. Average of 40 hours per week, 5 days a week primarily Monday through Friday, with some evenings and weekends as required. This position requires the ability to share a workspace/office environment with others.

Compensation: This position falls into a salary range starting at $46,000 annually (exempt)
