Job Description
The mission of Safe Connections is to “reduce the impact and incidence of relationship violence and sexual assault through education, crisis intervention, counseling, and support services.” Started as a grassroots effort in 1976, Safe Connections is now one of the largest, most established, and awarded nonprofit organizations in the St. Louis area focused on ending domestic and sexual violence. Its services show measurable success and are completely free of charge.
The CEO is directly accountable to and reports to the Board of Directors (Board). There are currently five direct reports.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership, management, and strategic vision for Safe Connections.
- Works closely with the Chief Development and Marketing Officer to develop and implement a strategic marketing and fundraising plan, including identifying and developing and retaining funding partners, grant resources and private donors.
- Directs and evaluates the programs of the organization in close collaboration with the program services management staff, developing new programs and activities in response to assessment of community needs. Promotes Performance Quality Improvement of Safe Connections’ services and operations.
- Works directly and closely with the Board and the Chief Finance and Business Officer to ensure the fiscal health and stability of Safe Connections by managing Safe Connections’ annual budget and delegating its preparation and implementation to the Chief Finance and Business Officer.
- Engages with Safe Connections’ leadership and management staff and the Board to develop and execute a strategic plan, including periodic evaluation of achievement of goals.
- Hires, develops, and supervises Safe Connections’ personnel, delegating such responsibilities as are appropriate to other management staff. Administers personnel policies to ensure Safe Connections has a positive, respectful and collaborative culture.
- Markets Safe Connections to the public through speaking engagements, mediainterviews, and publications. Oversees the development of reports, brochures, social media/electronic communications, and educational materials, delegating design and production responsibilities to appropriate staff members.
- Communicates and advocates with local, state, and national organizations to increase the impact and visibility of Safe Connections’ work. Serves on regional and statewide planning and coordinating bodies as appropriate.
- Acts as liaison to the Board, continually and timely keeping it informed of Safe Connections operations so that it has adequate and complete information to carry out its oversight and fiduciary responsibilities. Primary responsibility for preparation of Board and committee materials.
- As an ex-officio member, participates in all meetings of the Board and its Committees. Provides professional advice to the Board and recommends for Board adoption policies to carry out the operation and services of Safe Connections.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, have a strong work ethic, and be adept at interacting with and understanding others, encompassing effective communication, empathy, active listening, conflict resolution and teamwork, ultimately fostering positive relationships and collaboration.

Experience
- Minimum of ten years’ experience in administration of a human services agency or equivalent administrative experience
Qualifications
- • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, education, business, or another related field preferred, or equivalent experience
- Expertise in leadership management, fundraising, community relations, and public speaking
