Training Opportunities

MOCADSV provides training to a broad range of audiences, and we create substantial opportunities to contribute to preventing and addressing domestic and sexual violence in Missouri. Our wide variety of training opportunities help educate service providers on how to provide quality, trauma-informed domestic violence and sexual assault services.

Our training options

Training is a free benefit of MOCADSV membership. Our staff members are nationally recognized for their expertise in domestic violence, sexual assault, prevention, and non-profit management. Advocates, community organizations, businesses, state agencies, and allied professionals rely on MOCADSV’s training, resources, and publications to educate their staff and contractors.

MOCADSV offers educational opportunities through a variety of formats including in-person sessions, webinars, and online courses. For a small fee, non-members can also participate in the numerous educational opportunities offered or even request training designed specifically for their organization.

In addition, MOCADSV distributes more than 20,000 publications and training tools for member organizations, allied service providers, community partners, and supporters each year. If you would like more information about these educational opportunities, please contact the training team at 573.634.4161 or training@mocadsv.org.

Advocates' Academy

Advocates' Academy logo Advocates’ Academy is a 48-hour foundational eLearning course designed to cover all the basics from our in-person Foundations of Advocacy and Advocacy in Practice courses. Enrollment is open on a rolling basis, and advocates will be able to join the course at any time and complete the training at their own pace.

MOCADSV’s Service Standards require advocates and volunteers with domestic violence agencies and rape crisis centers to receive 40-hours of training before providing services, and 48-hours of training for agencies that provide both domestic and sexual violence services. This course provides new advocates the opportunity to meet that standard in just one course. To register, click here. This course is free for MOCADSV members. For more information, contact the training team at 573.634.4161 or training@mocadsv.org

Member-only collaboratives and roundtables

People of Color Leadership Collaborative

POC collaborative logoThis group connects advocates of color from MOCADSV member programs to engage in authentic dialogue and to develop support and leadership skills that focus on the experiences of communities of color including but not limited to systemic oppression; inequitable policies and practices; and anti-racism work that contributes to ending rape and abuse in Missouri. These conversations are open to MOCADSV program members who identify as people of color or as members of a culturally or ethnically specific community. For more information, contact our Logistics Associate, Pamela Martin, at pmartin@mocadsv.org.

LGBTQIA+ Roundtable

The LGBTQIA+ Roundtable provides a space where advocates can come together to engage in authentic dialogue and develop support focused on the experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community including but not limited to systemic oppression; inequitable policies and practices; and work contributing to ending rape and abuse in Missouri. This group is open to advocates at MOCADSV member agencies who identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community. This Collaboration will meet quarterly for training and networking. Allies for this community are appreciated, however, this roundtable is intended only for those that identify with the LGBTQIA+ community. For more information on the LGBTQIA+ Roundtable, contact our Training Coordinator, Kim Howard, at khoward@mocadsv.org.

Prevention and Health Equity Collaborative

The Prevention and Health Equity Collaborative intends to bring together prevention advocates from all across Missouri to collaborate on a shared focus of addressing the root causes of gender-based violence using a public health approach. Our goal for this calendar year is to build community within the collaborative through networking opportunities, sharing best practices and innovations in prevention, as well as peer-to-peer troubleshooting challenges within the work. To learn more about the Prevention and Health Equity Collaborative, contact our Partnership Development Coordinator, Ashlea Whaley, at awhaley@mocadsv.org

Immigrant and Refugee Services Roundtable

This relationship-building roundtable will bring advocates, attorneys, and immigrant service providers together to connect with one another, share resources, and discuss emerging trends. Topics of conversation may include immigration, language access, and other issues related to providing services to immigrant and refugee survivors of violence. For more information on the Immigrant and Refugee Services Roundtable, contact Member Services Specialist, Nora Mosby, at nmosby@mocadsv.org.

Services for Children Roundtable

MOCADSV is interested in hearing from members whose organizations have children’s programming – regardless of program size. This roundtable will have guided discussions around children’s services in your agencies and is open to both those that are currently engaged in children’s services as well as those that are interested in developing children’s programming. This will be a time for advocates to connect, share ideas and resources, discuss emerging trends, and identify training areas needed to successfully expand or implement a children’s program at your organization. For more information, contact the training team at training@mocadsv.org.

Court Advocate Collaborative

MOCADSV will host quarterly zoom calls for advocates who have experience working with survivors in the court system. These calls will be an opportunity for advocates to discuss how Missouri courts are providing safe access for survivors. As courts’ practices change quickly our services must also evolve. These calls will give advocates the opportunity to connect, share resources, troubleshoot problems, and brainstorm possible solutions. The Court Advocates Quarterly call is hosted by our Legal Director, Kelly Martinez, and our Legal Resources Specialist, Samantha Ghormley Hill. For more information, contact the training team at training@mocadsv.org.

Case Management Roundtable

This roundtable brings together advocates throughout Missouri to discuss what case management services look like within agencies. We will discuss case management with survivors of domestic and sexual violence both in and outside shelter programs as well as community resources, support, and challenges. This roundtable is for any advocate working with domestic and sexual violence survivors. For more information, contact the training team at training@mocadsv..
